Using food and herbs for health is a historical practice that is empowering, transforming and not without controversy.
Many nutritional and herbal supplements being sold over the counter do not contain what is purported to be in them, and have caused harm.
Quality supplements recommended by someone without sufficient medical training can also cause significant harm, whether by masking a deeper illness or directly causing harm from unknown contraindications.
Naturopathic Doctors are the best trained medical professionals to date in the use of nutritional and herbal supplements. I do the best I can to recommend supplements that are third party tested and quality assured.
My clients are able to order their natural prescriptions online through Fullscript, a prescribing service, at a considerable discount. I do not think making money from supplements that I prescribe for treatment to be ethical, at the same time I spend a considerable amount of time researching and choosing supplements. Currently, my practice takes home only 10% on supplement sales through Fullscript, this is 40% below most markups. This money supports the operations of my practice, and is such a small amount that I believe it deters potential conflict of interest. My goal is to one day not take in any percentage from supplement sales, or to donate the income. The link for my current clients is above.
At the end of the day, I do not care where my patients buy their supplements, I only care what they are and how much they are taking
