Some years ago, I made what has turned out to be the most challenging and most rewarding decision of my life: to become a naturopathic doctor.
Ever since I was 8 years old, I wanted to be a doctor. I think this probably came from growing up watching my sister go to multiple medical visits. Seeing her and my parents struggle with her illness lead me to want to know more about the body and more about what I could do to help.
It wasn't until I was 18 that I knew what a naturopathic doctor was. In Alaska, during my sophomore year of college, I became so sick with allergies, migraines and subsequent depression that I could hardly go to classes. At some point, I started looking at my life dreams, and realized that I would never achieve them if I did not find a way to get better.
This was a great realization, but it still left me without knowing what to do. My regular doctor gave me a couple prescriptions which only helped somewhat. There were a million diets out there, and the supplement store had their suggestions, but I had no idea what would work, and taking over-the-counter herbs on my own scared me. A friend suggested I visit a naturopathic doctor, which I had never heard of before.
At my first visit, my doctor helped me to see how my symptoms were all connected, how my depression did not mean that there was something wrong with who I was or my attitude, but that it likely came from the same source of my allergies and migraines--inflammation. After some lab tests and trial and error of various diets and supplements, I started feeling better. Not perfect, but verifiably better, and thus my journey into wellness began.
Many years and many classes and exams later, I am now a naturopathic doctor. My personal health journey has had many twists and turns, as I am sure yours has, too, otherwise you wouldn't be here reading this, seeking more solutions.
I love the work that I do with my clients, and I am inspired by the healthy choices and big changes I see them make everyday. I am also honored by the trust they place in me.
If you are interested in working with me, please schedule a free phone consult. We will have 10 minutes to talk about your story, and I will be honest if I think I can help you.
